Fall Family Fiesta

The seventh annual Fall Family Fiesta will take place on Sunday, Oct. 14, from 1 pm to 4 pm at Mahackeno Outdoor Center. The Westport Weston Family Y’s signature fall family event is free and open to everyone in the community.

Children of all ages are invited to the 32-acre Mahackeno campus, longtime home of the Y’s summer day camp and future home of the new Y. “We’ll have lots of food and games, with both our climbing wall and zip line in operation, and we’ll continue our tradition of decorating sugar pumpkins for the kids to take home,” says Meaghan George, Family Y Camp & Youth Director and coordinator of this year’s Fall Family Fiesta.

Among the special activities planned for the day:

Lunch fare includes grilled hot dogs, plus an array of salads and healthful snacks and beverages. A DJ will supply a musical backdrop to the festivities.

There’s more than fun and games at this year’s Fall Family Fiesta: The Family Y is pleased to host Solarize Westport, a newly launched effort by the Town of Westport’s Green Task Force to equip local homes with low-cost solar power. Volunteers from Solarize Westport will be on hand to discuss the initiative and will also conduct a “Make a Solar Cooker” demonstration for Fiesta-goers as well as local Girl Scouts vying to earn a coveted solar power merit badge.

“The Family Y is all about youth development, healthy living and social responsibility,” says Rob Reeves, Family Y CEO. “All of that comes together at our season-ending event at Mahackeno, the Fall Family Fiesta.”

Free parking is available at Mahackeno’s Sunny Lane entrance. Turn off Route 33 near the Red Barn restaurant and proceed along the northbound entrance to the Merritt Parkway. Stay right and follow Sunny Lane to the end. For more information, please visit www.westporty.org or contact Meaghan George at mgeorge@westporty.org or 203-226-8981.
