Can you imagine what children did to amuse themselves in the olden days, before the Internet, or even before TV? For three days over the February Vacation, WHS will be running a very special folk and freedom workshop. Learn what kids played with 100 years ago, long before cell phones, and websites. Exercise your imagination while creating classic folk art. Paint like Grandma Moses; make classic wooden animal plaques, and learn fun and fascinating facts about the Revolutionary war while making your own Revolutionary Tri cornered hat.  You might even make your own 1800′s version of the ‘ugly doll’ and a Sock Monkey! Three days of active, tuned in vacation fun mixed with fascinating history, and good old fashioned games and play including art, storytelling, yoga, cooking, and games for children ages 5-12.

On Tuesday, February 21, our special guest will be Historical Humorist, Christina Frei  who will present: The Top 10 Most Embarrassing Things You Don’t Know about George Washington: A Comedy- Improv-Meets-History program

There are things about himself that George Washington would not want you to know. After all, he cut a regal figure in his day.  Washington was the most beautiful horseman of the 1700s, a persistent commanding general, and a dignified first President.  Even today, his face stares back at us on the one-dollar bill with cold grandeur.

But there are also things about Washington that are flat-out embarrassing.  For example, did you know he only won 3 out 9 major battles of the Revolutionary War?   Or that he had a terrible relationship with his mother?   This program compiles the top 10 most embarrassing things in a funny, interactive program for your students that offer lots of quality content and history through this entertaining format.  It’s almost guaranteed students will be showing off their new-found knowledge with their families at home.

This February workshop is designed for children 5-12, bring lunch, pizza party on Thursday. Members $145 Non-Members $175, Reservations required, limited enrollment: 203-222-1424, For more info: www.westporthistory.org
