LCF Ride for Research

JoyRide Cycling Studio will host a fundraiser, the LCF Ride for Research, to benefit the Lynne Cohen Foundation for Ovarian Cancer Research (LCF) on Sunday, June 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  LCF is a national, nonprofit organization supporting and enabling collaborative, multi-institutional research combating ovarian cancer through the early detection and prevention of ovarian and breast cancers.  Since 1998, LCF has raised more than $6 million to support research and preventive care for these women’s cancers.

JoyRide and LCF are recruiting members of the community and supporters to help make a difference in the fight against women’s cancers.  Riders are encouraged to register as a bike captain and recruit a friend to participate in the two-hour endurance ride and help reach a team fundraising goal of $1,000 per bike.  Another option is to register to participate in the ride as a member of a team and raise funds.  One can also make a donation to support an individual participant, a team or the general event fund.  Supporters are also encouraged to spread the word about this important fundraiser and organization.

The doors open at 10 am for participants, families and supporters.  The two-hour endurance ride starts at 11 a.m and will be led by Rhodie Lorenz (Westport, Conn.), co-owner and lead instructor of JoyRide Cycling Studio.  The event closes at 2 p.m.  Beverages and light snacks will be available before, during and after the event.

To register for the LCF Ride for Research at JoyRide, or to make a donation, please visit the event web site at http://lcfrideforresearch.kintera.org/2012.  Online registration will close on June 2, the day before the event.

"The Lynne Cohen Foundation is thrilled to hold our first event in Connecticut at JoyRide,” said Erin Berk (Westport, Conn.), who co-founded the Lynne Cohen Foundation in memory of her mother, Lynne Cohen.  “I have lived in Westport for nine years, and I couldn't think of a better community to spread our message of the importance of early detection and prevention.  After my mom lost her five year struggle with Ovarian Cancer in 1998, my sisters, brother and I wanted to carry on her memory and legacy by helping other women who are touched by this awful disease.”

“By joining forces with JoyRide, we can help participants build self-awareness, strength and confidence towards their own health and wellness,” she said.  “Nothing would have made my mom more proud than to see people taking an active role in their health."

Since it opened last June, JoyRide has been committed to raising money and awareness by hosting several successful indoor cycling fundraisers and training rides, including Charley’s Ride to benefit wounded soldiers and Cycle for Survival for rare cancer research.  In addition, JoyRide’s team raised the most money of any other team to compete at SpinOdyssey, the indoor cycling event to benefit breast cancer research in March.

“JoyRide is honored to host this important and inspirational fundraising event and bring awareness to the research of women’s cancers,” said Debbie Katz (Westport, Conn.), co-owner of JoyRide.  “We are excited to once again prove that we can accomplish more as a team than as individuals.”

Since 1998, LCF has directly helped fund a network of preventive care clinics, including two at NYU Cancer Center and Bellevue Hospital Center exclusively for the uninsured and underserved.  In addition, the organization has helped fund a consortium of researchers from prestigious cancer centers around the country and a national data registry of high-risk patients from diverse communities.  Please visit their web site for more information: www.lynnecohenfoundation.org
