Pequot Library Annual Derby Day Party fundraising event

Pequot Library Hosts Derby Day Fundraising Event: Saturday, May 5, 2012 from 4 - 7pm

For the fourth consecutive year, Pequot Library’s energetic group of young supporters of the Library known as “Pequot Contemporaries” will host a Kentucky Derby Day Party on the Great Lawn of the Library on the day of the race itself – May 5.

The event has quickly become a rite of spring and celebration of the “Run for the Roses,” and contributes a significant amount to the Library’s Annual Operating budget.   The Lawn will be alive with party-goers resplendent in traditional Derby Day garb (with wonderful big hats), classic cars, mint juleps, and plenty of great food. Attendees can either purchase a spot for a tailgating part on their own car, or buy individual tickets and enjoy all the fun without the car.  As a finishing touch, members of the Bridle Trail Association with be there with horses and riders in full dress, adding even more color to the scene.

In the past, the party has moved indoors so attendees could watch the Derby live on a large-screen television in the Auditorium. This year, they’ll have the option of staying outdoors longer: there will be TVs on the lawn as well.

Each year we have a lottery- the legal version of betting on the horses.  This year, generous sponsors have donated prizes for win, place, and show. Some will be a surprise, but others will be announced as the day approaches. Watch the Library website for details.
