GFA Boys Basketball Falls To Rye Country Day

Sean Obi has 24 points and 23 rebounds in 59-48 loss to the top team in FAA

The Green Farms Academy boys basketball team could not sustain a strong start Thursday against Rye Country Day, the first-place team in the Fairchester Athletic Association.

Despite 24 points and 23 rebounds from Greenwich's Sean Obi, the Dragons dropped a 59-48 decision in Rye after leading by as many as 11 points in the first half.

It was the second loss for GFA against Rye Country Day this season is also suffered an 84-63 defeat on Dec.

Rye Country Day improved to 7-1 overall and 4-0 in the FAA while GFA dropped to 3-3 and 2-3.

Obi recorded his 29th consecutive double-double, but GFA coach Doug Scott pointed to his team's overall poor shooting. He also did not want to use a long holiday break as an excuse.

"We did a lot of things well, but shooting the ball was not one of them," he said. "We missed 36 points worth of scoring in the paint. I want to attribute it to the big holiday layoff, but Rye did not seem to suffer from the same affliction."

GFA’s defense was tenacious in the first half, allowing only 19 points, but Rye solved it in the second half while GFA could not get a shot to fall.

Rye outscored the Dragons 40-23 in the second half after trailing 25-19 at the intermission.

Greenwich's Hunter Eggers added 11 points for GFA and Brian Comey (Westport) and Zach Baines (Stamford) each grabbed eight rebounds.

Darren Douglas scored 20 and Alex Gendelman added 16 to pace Rye. Tyler Fernandez chipped in with 11 points fof the hosts.
