GFA Boys Defeat King School, 68-51

Greenwich's Hunter Eggers scores 26 points for the Dragons, who improve to 14-3 following their 11th straight victory

Greenwich's Hunter Eggers returned from a three-game absence to score 26 points Monday as the Greens Farms Academy boys basketball team defeated the King School 68-51 for its 11th straight victory.

Eggers,  who was sidelined with a sprained foot, hit six 3-pointers, helping the Dragons improve to 14-3 overall 10-3 in  the FAA. King dropped to 7-12 and 3-8.

Greenwich's Sean Obi, who spent eight minutes on the bench in the first half with two fouls, added 11 points and 15 rebounds for GFA.

With Eggers erupting for 22 points in the opening half, the Dragons built a commanding 47-28 lead at the intermission.

Matt Tate, another player from Greenwich, handed out 11 assists for GFA. Darien's Patrick Ryan scored nine points for the Dragons while Tate chipped with seven.

Chris Gaynor paced King with 15 points and Drew Sawyer and Matt Reggina added 11 apiece.

Sawyer, who began his career at Norwalk, recently surpassed the 1,000-point plateau, a feat also accomplished by his father Stacey Sawyer, a Norwalk alum, in the early 1980s.

Ranked No. 3 in their division in New England, the Dragons travel to Woodstock on Wednesday to take on second-ranked Hyde. Last Wednesday, GFA knocked off to0-ranked Hamden Hall.

The winner of Wednesday's clash likely will get home game seeding for the New England championship tournament set for the first week of March.

On Friday, GFA hosts St. Luke's in its final FAA regular-season game. The FAA tournament takes place the last weekend of February.

The Dragons are second in the FAA standings behind Hamden Hall (12-3, 8-1).
