GFA Boys Hold Off Masters School, 68-61

Greenwich's Sean Obi recorded 14 points and grabbed 26 rebounds Wednesday as the Greens Farms Academy boys basketball team posted a 68-61 victory over the Masters School in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.

Obi, who had 20 rebounds on the defensive end, also broke his single-game school record with seven blocked shots.

GFA improved to 9-3 overall and 6-3 in the FAA while Masters dropped to 6-3 and 3-3.

Heading into Wednesday's game, GFA and Masters were both undefeated except for losses to the same two opponents, Hamden Hall and Rye Country Day.

"It’s always a quality win when you get one against a Matt Kammrath (Masters) coached team,"  GFA coach Doug Scott said. "He throws so many defensive looks at you, you have to be able to execute a large chunk of your playbook. And all of your roster must play well."

Seventh grader Tremont Waters of New Haven led GFA with 16 points while Darien's Patrick Ryan added 14 for the Dragons.

"Tremont Waters continues to amaze," Scott said. "They tried to bang him off of the ball, all over the court, but he kept competing."

Westport's Brien Comey and Stamford's Zach Baines helped Obi on the boards with 13 and 10 rebounds, respectively.

GFA, which led 36-27 at the half, converted 16-of-22 free throws.

"I’m very pleased about the heavy free throw shooting practice that the guys have put in," Scott said. "It helped us keep our lead in the  late going tonight."

Obi is ranked third nationally in rebounding (18.7rpg) while Greenwich's Matt Tate is second in assists per game among New England prep schools (7.5). Tate had eight assists on Wednesday.

Gregg Braithwaite scored 24 points and Shelton Russell added 13 to lead Masters.
