GFA Holds Off King In Overtime, 73-67

Sean Obi has 29 points and 26 rebounds for the Dragons, who improve to 6-3

Greens Farms Academy's Sean Obi and Drew Sawyer of the King School staged a spectacular duel Thursday afternoon in Westport.

In the end, Obi's team emerged victorious, as the Dragons pulled out a 73-67 overtime victory to improve to 6-3 (4-3 in the FAA).

Greenwich's Obi poured in 29 points and grabbed 26 rebounds for his 32nd consecutive double-double. Sawyer was almost as impressive with 26 points.

"As the kids say, Sean Obi was in 'beast mode','' GFA coach Doug Scott said.

GFA appeared in be in control, building leads of 13 points in each half, but King fought back and forced overtime on a 3-pointer by Matt Reggina with under four seconds remaining.

Scott credited Sawyer for rallying King down the stretch.

"Drew Sawyer refused to let King go away, scoring any way and every way possible to get to 26 points," Scott said.

Four players scored in double figures for GFA as Greenwich's Hunter Eggers finished with 12 and Darien's Patrick Ryan and New Haven's Tremont Waters each had 10.

Westport's Brien Comey helped Obi on the boards with 10 rebounds.

Reggina and Chris Gaynor each added 17 points for King, which dropped to 4-7 and 1-3.

"It was a game of momentum swings," Scott said. "I’m glad we got the last one."

The Dragons outscored King 11-5 in the extra period.
