A slow start doomed the Staples boys lacrosse team Saturday.
Greenwich jumped out to a six-goal lead after the first period and defeated the Wreckers 14-7 in the quarterfinals of the FCIAC playoffs.
Kip Orban scored three goals for seventh-seeded Staples (13-4) while Billy Lahiff added a pair.

After falling behind 7-1 after the first quarter, the Wreckers regrouped in the second period and pulled within 8-4 at the half, but could not fully recover from their poor start.
Andrew Feeney and Woody Waesche each scored three goals for No. 2 seed Greenwich (11-6), which will face No. 3 Ridgefield in the semifinals on Tuesday at McMahon.
