Due to the unyielding rain, which has caused postponements for three straight days, the Staples baseball team hasn't played in five days. The rain washed out the entire FCIAC baseball and softball slate on Wednesday.

The Wreckers, who are tied for second in the FCIAC with McMahon at 12-4 in league play, hope to finally get back on the field Thursday, when they are scheduled to host Fairfield Ludlowe. With a win, Staples clinches a home game in the quarterfinals of the FCIAC playoffs.

The Wreckers conclude the regular season at Greewich on Friday.

The Staples softball team hopes to keep its slim FCIAC playoff hopes alive Thursday when the Wreckers host Fairfield Ludlowe.

Staples (9-7) is in ninth place, one game behind Stamford, Wilton and Fairfield Warde, who are tied for sixth at 10-6. The Wreckers finish up at home against Greenwich on Friday.

As far as tiebreakers, the Wreckers lost to all three teams ahead of them, so they need a ton of help.

Staples' best bet may be to jump over Warde, which finishes with a pair of difficult games -- Danbury (11-5) and Darien (14-1).
