A protest filed by the Staples girls softball team has been upheld by the FCIAC, the league announced on its website Monday night.
The game, initially won by Westhill, 5-3, on April 18, will be replayed at a date to be determined.
It will be picked up at the point of the protest, which occured in the bottom of the first inning, when the Vikings trailed 1-0 and had a runner on third base.
During her windup, the Staples pitcher dropped the ball, resulting in an illegal pitch. A ball was called and the umpire allowed the runner to score from third base.
However, while a ball is automatically called for an illegal pitch, runners are not allowed to advance a base. The FCIAC committee determined that the umpire misapplied the rule and granted the Wreckers' protest.
