Staples Scores and Standings: May 9

The Staples' outdoor track team earned two firsts Saturday at the prestigious Lindy Remingino Invitational in New Britain. 

Lexie Schachne won the pole vault with a leap of 11 feet, 6 inches and the Wreckers also took the boys 4x800 relay. Staples' team of Walker Marsh, Jack Roche, Jeff Caffery and Henry Wynne posted a winning time of 8:11.92.

Staples 5, Danbury 4 - Caitlin Kane doubled in the winning run for the Wreckers in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Baseball

Danbury 3, Staples 2 (8) -- The Hatters pushed across a run in the seventh to tie it, then won it in the bottom of the eighth. Rob Gau struck out nine while Mike Scott had two hits and an RBI for the Wreckers.

Girls lacrosse

Staples 14, Danbury 9 --  Maeve Flaherty scored four goals to lead the undefeated Wreckers while Nikki Seo added three goals and two assists.

Darien 3, Staples 1

SATURDAY'S SCHEDULE

Girls lacrosse

Wilton 17, Staples 7 -- Ali Crofts, Nikki Seo and Jessie Ambrose each scored two goals for the Wreckers, who suffered their first loss of the season in the battle of the unbeatens.

Boys lacrosse

Staples 16, Fairfield Warde 1 -- Nick Maki scored three goals and Kyle Murray and Tom Jenkins added two apiece for the Wreckers, who overpowered the winless Mustangs.
