Staples Wins FCIAC Field Hockey Title
Wreckers defeat No. 2 Wilton 2-1 to claim the championship
Two days after ending the third-longest unbeaten streak in high school field hockey history, the Staples Wreckers celebrated its first FCIAC championship since 1994.
Misha Strage scored with just under 10 minutes remaining as the fourth-seeded Wreckers captured the title Saturday with a 2-1 victoy over No. 2 seed Wilton at McMahon.
On Thursday, Strage scored the game's only goal as Staples stunned top seed Darien 1-0, handing the Blue Wave their first loss loss since 2007. The defeat snapped Darien's 93-game unbeaten streak and 82-game winning streak.

Staples (11-3-3-1) played beat the clock in the first half Saturday as Emily Ashken scored with one second remaining for the Wreckers.
Wilton's Caroline DeAngelis scored with 27 minutes remaining to tie the contest, 1-1.
Staples goaltender Chris Lueb was named the game's Most Valuable Player after making seven saves. Lizette Roman-Johnston also stopped seven shots for the Warriors.

Wilton, which reached the final with wins over Fairfield Ludlowe and New Canaan, takes a 17-3-0-0 record into the state tournament.
