Mike Argosh and Peter Rankowitz each scored 12 points Thursday as the boys basketball team posted a 45-29 victory over New Canaan.
Coming off a 78-74 double-overtime victory against Bridgeport Central, the Wreckers won their second straight to improve to 4-4. New Canaan dropped to 1-8

However, the game wasn't quite as easy as the final score might suggest.
Staples only had a 32-22 lead after the third quarter, but the Wreckers put away the contest by outscoring the Rams 13-7 over the final eight minutes.

After taking an 8-6 lead after the first quarter, Staples outscored New Canaan 15-6 in the second period to build a 23-12 halftime lead.
Willie Burger scored eight points to lead New Canaan and Nick Depuy added seven.

The Staples girls also defeated New Canaan on Thursday with a 62-56 victory.
Nikki Bukovsky scored 19 points to lead four players in double figures for the Wreckers. Jessica Coelho added 16, Erica Stein 15 and Remy Nolan 12 as they combined for all 62 of Staples' points.
New Canaan's Sarah Mannelly led all scorers with 27 points and Courtney Rogers added 12 for the Rams, who dropped to 7-4.
Staples, which improved to 7-3, built a 46-32 lead after the third quarter, then held on after the Rams outscored the Wreckers 24-16 in the final period.
Mannelly also had six assists, six steals and five rebounds.
