After a 2-4 start, the Staples boys (5-4) have climbed over .500 for the first time this season and are looking to stay in the FCIAC playoff race.
Peter Rankowitz scored 21 points and James Frusciante added 15 as the Wreckers routed Harding 73-50 on Tuesday. Staples is currently tied for ninth in the FCIAC standings with Westhill and Trumbull at 4-3 in league play.

Darien won't be going to the FCIAC playoffs as the Blue Wave fell to 2-8 following Tuesday's 80-43 loss to Trinity Catholic.
The Staples girls (8-3 overall) want to show they are among the FCIAC's elite teams and a victory over Darien will tie the Wreckers with St. Joseph for the FCIAC's third-best mark.
Staples is 7-2 in the FCIAC, but that is good for only third place in the competitive West Division behind Danbury (9-0) and Trumbull (8-1). St. Joseph heads the FCIAC East with an 8-2 league record.
The Wreckers handled Harding 68-32 on Tuesday to clinch a berth in the state tournament for the 28th consecutive season, the second-longest streak in Connecticut high school girls basketball history.
Darien improved to 6-5 with a 57-49 victory over Trinity Catholic. Meg Marren returned to the lineup after missing two games with a foot injury and scored 17 points for the Blue Wave.
Darien has had somewhat of an up-and-down year, but could be a dangerous team down the stretch with a healthy Marren.
