After falling 79-61 at top-ranked St. Joseph, the boys basketball team will look to start another winning streak on Friday when the Wreckers host Fairfield Warde on Friday (7 p.m.).

Tuesday's 79-61 loss to the Cadets, snapped a fur-game winning streak for the Wreckers, who dropped to 6-5 overall and 5-4 in the FCIAC.

Peter Rankowitz (26 points) and Michael Argosh (25) had huge games for the Wreckers, but it wasn't enough against the top team in the state.

Warde enters the contest at 5-6 and 3-6 following Tuesday's tough 44-43 loss to a two-win Ludlowe team. The Wreckers may need to beat the Mustangs to stay in the FCIAC playoff race just past the midpoint of the season.

Meanwhile, the Staples girls, who fell to St. Joseph 69-55 on Tuesday, will be facing one of the hottest teams in the FCIAC when the Wreckers travel to Fairfield to take on the Mustangs (7 p.m.).

Warde (8-5, 6-5) held off rival Ludlowe 46-43 four its fourth straight victory. The win enabled the Mustangs, who started 0-3, to clinch a state tournament for the 19th consecutive season.

Friday's contest is critical in the FCIAC postseason race.

Staples (8-5, 7-4) is tied for fifth in the standings with Westhill and Stamford, just one-half game ahead of Trinity Catholic. Fairfield Warde is tied for ninth, just one-half game out of a playoff spot.

The Wreckers will try to cool of a veteran Warde team (five senior starters) that could be peaking at the right time with the start of the playoffs less than a month away.
