Henry Wynne, who finished third in the CIAC Class LL race with a time of 16:13, 23 seconds behind winner Connor Rog of Fairfield Prep, leads a large contingent of Staples' runners who will compete in the state Open cross country meet.
The races are set for Tuesday at Hammonasset Park in Madison with the boys starting at 1:45 p.m. and the girls going off at 2:30 p.m.

The Open meet originally was scheduled for Friday at Manchester's Wickham Park but was postponed. The site was changed because Wickham Park suffered damage in the recent snowstorm and the CIAC determinedit was unable to host the event.
The only female participating for Staples is Caroline Koenig, who placed fifth in the Class LL race (19:52).

On the boys side, Wynne will be joined by Mike Kulis, Sam Cohen, David Haswell, Patrick Nolan, Brad Payne and Marcus Russi.
The Staples football team can clinch a spot in the FCIAC championship game with a win at winless Westhill on Saturday.
Even if the Wreckers (7-0 FCIAC), who will be without top rusher Joey Zelkowitz (shoulder separation), somehow lose to the Vikings, they still might have enough bonus points to qualify.
The biggest benefactor from New Canaan's 36-29 loss to Stamford on Saturday -- the Rams' first defeat against the Black Knights since 1971 - was Greenwich.
The Cardinals climbed to second in the FCIAC rankings and can clinch a berth in the title game with a win at Danbury on Thursday.
Since the Cardinals play early, they would have luxury of sitting back and awaiting their opponent (probably Staples).
If Greenwich losses, New Canaan could slide back in with a win over Trumbull (2-4). The health of quarterback Matt Milano could be a concern after he suffered an apparent concussion against Stamford.
However, Rams coach Lou Marinelli told the Stamford Advocate on Saturday night that Milano had a migrane headache and should be okay.
Here are the rankings after the weekend:
1. Staples (7-0) 131.3
2. Greenwich (7-0) 122.5
3. New Canaan (7-1) 115.6
4. Norwalk (6-1) 112.5
5. Darien (7-1) 110.0
All five have a mathematical shot, but Norwalk needs losses by Greenwich and New Canaan and Darien needs losses by Greenwich, New Canaan and Norwalk.
Graduate students Brendon and Keaton Cristobal from Staples are members of the Fairfield University men's soccer team, which won the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference title Monday with a 3-1 victory over Manhattan.
The Stags improved to 12-4-1 and will be headed to the NCAA tournament for the fourth time in school history.
While Fairfield's stars are foreign, the roster does include some other local players, including freshman Jake Zuniga, a former Norwalk standout, Matt Danaher, a sophomore defender from St. Joseph, and John Sullivan, a freshman midfielder from Trumbull.
Keaton Cristobal has played in all but one game for the Stags this season, registering a goal and two assists. Brendon Cristobal has seen action in 12 games, starting nine.
Three Westport teams have advanced in the Fairfield County Football League playoffs. Because of last week's postponements, quarterfinal games in each age bracket will be played on Tuesday and Wednesday to complete the playoffs before Thanksgiving. Semifinal games are set for this weekend will the finals scheduled for next weekend.
