The Staples girls soccer team bounced back from a disappointing performance at Trumbull (4-1 loss) to earn a 2-2 on Wednesday against Greenwich, which came into the game with just one loss.
The Wreckers gave up the game's opening goal just three minutes into the contest, but Staples tied it on a goal by Turner Block 30 minutes into the first half.

Greenwich answered just seconds to take a 2-1 lead at the intermission, but the Wreckers secured the point with an unlikely goal in the final two minutes.
Abby Lake drew a free kick 35 yards in front of Greenwich's goal. Goalkeeper Jesse Ambrose, who raced into the box, was able to head the ball into the net after Lake drilled her free kick into the goal mouth.

The result left Staples with a 3-3-2 record while Greenwich stands at 6-1-2.
The Staples boys soccer team is ranked second in this week's Connecticut High School Coaches Association large school poll.
The Wreckers, who improved to 6-0-1 with Monday's 1-0 win over McMahon, host Trumbull on Thursday. The Wreckers have surrendered only three goals all season and two of them came in a 2-2 tie with Norwalk.
Farmington, which defeated Staples 2-1 in last season's CIAC Class LL state championship game, is ranked first in the poll, collecting eight of 15 first-place votes. The Indians are off to a 5-0-3 start, tying Simsbury 0-0 on Tuesday.
Staples garnered two first-place votes, with No. 3 Pomperaug (7-0-0) collecting three and No. 4 Wethersfield (6-0-0) and No. 5 South Windsor (6-0-0) earning one each.
Completing the poll are No. 6 Trumbull (5-1-0), which has been off since suffering its first loss of the season to Stamford (1-0) last Wednesday, No. 7 Glastonbury (5-2-1), No. 8 Norwalk (5-1-1), No. 9 Simsbury (5-1-2) and No. 10 Guilford (4-1-3).
Glastonbury likely will drop out as it suffered as it suffered a 1-0 loss to Wethersfield on Tuesday for its second straight defeat.
