The 77th annual Stamford Yacht Club Vineyard race gets under way on Friday.

More than 90 boats from Fairfield and Westchester Counties will participate in the 238-mile race, which takes sailors to Buzzards Bay in Cape Cod back to the Stamford Yacht Club.

After Irene hit, there was some concern that the race might have to be cancelled. However, the SYC received minimal damage, allowing the race to begin on time.

First contested in 1932, the Vineyard Race takes place annually on Labor Day weekend.

The fastest time to complete the course was set by Blue Yankee in 2007. Skippered by Bob and Farley Towse of Stamford, it covered the course in 20 hours, 20 minutes and 15 seconds.

The Fairfield United Soccer Association is conducting its annual FAST Labor Day tournament this weekend.

A total of 160 teams are entered in the event, making its one of the largest in New England.

FAST is a one-day tournament with girls playing on Saturday and the boys playing on Sunday. It is sanctioned by CJSA and the CJSA age limitations will apply.

FUSA is hosting the following age groupings: U9, U10, U11, U12, U13 & U14 in both boys and girls brackets.

Each participating team will play a minimum of three to four games in a in a round robin format. U11-U14 winners and runner-ups will receive individual trophies. Participation awards will be given for all players on U9 & U10 teams.
