Chelsea Piers Connecticut (CPCT) announces the development of an elite travel lacrosse program led by former All American and current CPCT lacrosse director, Scott Bulkley.

Bo’s team tryouts will take place Oct. 22 at Stamford High School’s Upper turf field (behind the school).  Girla team tryouts will take place Sunday, Oct. 30 Greenwich Academy’s Lower Tammaro Field.  (See www.cpctlax.com for specific age group times and details and to register.) The year-round travel program will field one boys and one girls team per age group from ninth-graders through high school seniors.  Each team will have a maximum 28-player roster and two coaches per team.

The team program will start with a rigorous summer 2012 training schedule on outdoor fields, and follow up with a fall and winter practice and play program held on CPCT’s 100-yard indoor turf field and in the Chelsea Piers CT Athletic Training Facility.  The teams will travel regionally to compete.

“I am excited to be creating what will be the best club program in Connecticut,” Bulkley said. "There is a lot of talent in Fairfield County.  With our outstanding athletic facility at Chelsea Piers Connecticut and a roster of talented, dedicated coaches, I expect that CP-LAX will quickly become a dominant force in Fairfield County “

Terence Gibbons scored the game's only goal with under six minutes remaining as the Staples' boys soccer team edged Wilton 1-0 Thursday in a hard-fought game at Fujitani Field.

The Wreckers improved to 3-0, winning their second game by a 1-0 score. Wilton suffered its first loss and dropped to 2-1-1.

After Staples goalie James Hickok made a pair of saves midway through the first half, the Wreckers appeared to take the lead in the 43rd minute, but Jake Malowitz’s rebound goal was negated because of an offside call.

Hickok preserved the tie with two saves in the 73rd minute.

The Wreckers outshot Wilton 17-10 and also finished with a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.

Staples will be back in action on Saturday, when it hosts McMahon at 11 a.m.

The Staples football team seeks its second win of the young season when the Wreckers visit Bridgeport Central on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

While the offense struggled at times in last week's 21-7 win at St. Joseph, the Wreckers' defense forced four interceptions and gave up nothing deep with tight coverage in the secondary.

Junior running back Joey Zelkowitz, who missed last season with a neck injury, sparked the Wreckers by rushing for 208 yards and three TDs, including two long scores in the second half.

Central opened with a 33-20 loss at Wilton on Monday, so the Hilltoppers have had a short week preparing for the always physical Wreckers.
