With eight teams, including Staples High School, battling for the final three playoff spots, the final week of the FCIAC boys basketball season figures to be a wild one with numerous tiebreaker scenarios involved.
The Wreckers (9-9, 8-8) stayed in the mix with a stunning 60-34 triumph over Ridgefield on Wednesday. Staples raised some eyebrows throughout the FCIAC not only with the win itself but the margin of victory. The Wreckers were up 30-7 at the half.
The victory left Staples in a five-way for ninth in the FCIAC standings at 8-8 with Danbury, Fairfield Ludlowe, Fairfield Warde, Staples and Trumbull. That quintet is just one game behind Bridgeport Central, Greenwich and Stamford with only two games left in the regular season.

Staples has a winnable game at McMahon on Monday (7 p.m.) before finishing up the regular season at Bassick on Wednesday. The Wreckers may need to win both but with the contenders playing teams who have already clinched, 9-9 might be good enough defending how the tiebreakers work.
Staples lost to Greenwich but beat Central and Stamford. Regarding the other 8-8 teams, the Wreckers don't fare as well as their only win among the four came against Danbury.

Here is the final schedule for the other contenders:
Greenwich ---at Fairfield Warde, at Danbury
Bridgeport Central -- Trinity Catholic, at McMahon
Stamford -- at Bassick, at Harding
Danbury -- Norwalk, Greenwich
Fairfield Ludlowe -- at Trumbull, at Darien
Fairfield Warde -- Greenwich, St. Joseph
Trumbull -- Fairfield Ludlowe, Trinity Catholic.
Central (Trinity Catholic), Stamford (Bassick), Warde (St. Joseph), Staples (Bassick) and Trumbull (Trinity Catholic) each have tough games remaining while Monday's Warde-Greenwich and Ludlowe-Trumbull contests shape up as elimination games.
However, a win by the Falcons puts them clearly in the driver's seat as they finish at Darien.
St. Joseph, Ridgefield, Trinity Catholic, Bassick and Westhill have clinched playoff spots.
