Westport to Celebrate Little Leaguers with Parade Monday

The event will honor both the Little League baseball New England champions and World Series contenders and the softball state champs.

Welcome the New England champions home in style Monday -- Westport will hold a Main Street parade and Jesup Green celebration ceremony to celebrate the Little League All Stars.

The event will not only honor the World Series contenders, but also the 10-11 Little League girls All Stars softball team, which won the 2013 state title. Little League baseball manager Tim Rogers and coaches Tom Whelan, plus softball manager Mark McWhirter and coaches Lou Alfero and Andre Klein will be recognized, too.

“This will be a wonderful way to celebrate the achievements of these young athletes and demonstrate our support for them and for those who helped them bring home championships to Westport,” First Selectman Gordon Joseloff said. “We are so proud of them. Each and every Westporter is bursting with pride.”

According to Joseloff, Westport Little League President Carl McNair informed the Little Leaguers in Williamsport of the town’s plans, and they were excited and looking forward to the event.
