Westport PAL To Hold 4th of July Fireworks Tonight

Westport police issued a bulletin asking motorists and pedestrians to take caution while attending the Compo Beach Fireworks Tuesday night.

While parking tickets are completely sold out, shuttle bus passes are still available for the Athletic League (PAL) fireworks display Tuesday evening.

Access to the fireworks display will only be made through South Compo Road as Hillspoint Road south of Greens Farms Road will be open to residents with residences south of that intersection, said Westport Police Captain Sam Arciola.

“Motorist are reminded that there will be a significant amount of vehicular and pedestrian traffic in the Compo Beach area prior to and after the event,” Arciola said, adding that everybody should be very cautious when driving the nearby roads.

“Pedestrians attending the fireworks are reminded not to walk on the roads and to use the sidewalks when going to and from Compo Beach,” he said.

This year's PAL Fireworks are sponsored by Melissa and Doug, LLC, according to the town’s website. The Westport PAL thanks Melissa and Doug Bernstein for their continued support and for this year’s sponsorship for the fireworks.

Firework attendees are asked to display their ticket prominently on the dashboard where it is easily visible. Shuttle buses will be running from the at to Compo Beach.

At the end of the firework display two-way traffic will be suspended on Compo Beach Road, South Compo Road to the intersection of Greens Farms Road and on Hillspoint Road to the intersection of Greens Farms Road. There will be two lanes of northbound traffic on these streets until the beach is cleared, Arciola said.

A rain date for the event is scheduled for July 5.
