Health & Fitness

No Excuses, No Explanations

The time is NOW. Not yesterday. Not tomorrow. Not when the kids leave for summer camp. Invest in YOURSELF now.

Where are your priorities? What do you really VALUE in life? What are your values? What is your mission? What are your goals? And what projects and initiatives drive those goals?

OK, that’s a handful. But I can personally answer those in a 5 minute span because I’ve written them down countless times.

After that, you must align yourself with those specific goals.

At my core, I believe everyone DESERVES the right to feel fit and healthy.

Most people place FAMILY very high on the list of what’s important to them.

If that’s true, and I don’t doubt it for one second…then….shouldn’t you take care of yourself FIRST so you can be around to enjoy your family?

You come first. Your health and wellness are directly tied to how long you’ll be on this planet and with how much “vigor” you’ll live with. How much you’ll be able to enjoy those around you. It’s crucial.

I ask everyone who comes in here…

On a scale of 1-10, how committed are you to your health and fitness goals?

Some people laugh.

Some people comment that it’s a weird question.

Some say 10 out of the bat.

Some say 7, picking a middling number that won’t make them seem obsessed but also not lazy.

Anyways, the point is that I only want to work with dedicated people who value hard work and do not want a quick fix.

Many have said a high number and then I see them come in Monday morning looking awful, groggy and full of a alcohol, sugar-fueled weekend.

Others have said a 10 and although coming from a place of NOTHINGNESS, changed their lives 100% for the better.

My Coach was telling me today that it’s all about the journey. Few value the destination as much as the journey. The journey has its ups and downs, good times and extremely tough ones — but memories are made in the journey that can never be forgotten and THAT is what truly counts. For most of us the goal is a combination of aesthetics, performance and being able to do anything we want with our bodies whenever we want to. And that’s great.

The last thing I’m gonna mention is to trim the fat. Cut the crap. Pick a program, stick with it and stop making excuses. Fix your lifestyle before you try to tweak your program, or mine. Fix your sleep. Fix your toxic relationships. Fix your attitude. And when you walk through the door…nothing out “there” matters.

I had this quote pasted on my steering wheel for about two years before it fell off last Summer. It has had a tremendous impact on me.

“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, the education, the money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company… a church… a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past… we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you.” – Charles Swindoll
