Health & Fitness

What’s an assessment?

Fitness assessment, evaluation, personal consultation, etc, blah, blah, blah. What does that mean?

Walk into any gym and they’ll tell you about your free assessment with a personal trainer if you sign up for their program.

It’s usually a sales pitch into a bunch of personal training packages with very little in return.

I get emails and calls from people asking me about the assessment and if they really need to do it.

Some think they are above the system.

Our assessment is actually a true assessment: it lets me know where you are in your health and fitness and what fits you the best to fix it. It is crucial for me to know YOU, your body, the way you move, what is “tough” for you and what you are “good” at in order to train here.

If I don’t know where you are starting, then how can I know where I need to take you?

Below is a sample schedule of an assessment at Aspire Fitness….

  • Initial conversation about health and fitness past, outline of past 6 months training, medical history, injuries and limitations
  • Full bodyfat analysis done with calipers, which tell us a bit of the following: estrogen levels/hormonal imbalances, use of carbs and digestion, insulin/cortisol levels, lifestyle factors, stress, etc. This is not mandatory, but highly recommended.
  • Movement screening: we go through basic movements that tell us how you move and how you well you respond to cues and move your body
  • Workout: we do a workout based on your skills, lasting 3-7 minutes and may be intervals or continuous.
  • We finish with a recommended program from me to you: either 1-1 training, group classes, a mix of both and then a nutritional analysis
  • I get to know about your beliefs, your personality, etc and if we are a good fit for eachother. We are a small gym and human connection is important. Not just with me, but with our members. Everyone is different, but everyone is genuine and wants to work hard.

Wow, that’s a ton of info. Now you know why it is crucial for everyone to go through. Each assessment is tailored to the individual – some stay at our L1 assessment and more advanced athletes go to L4. They will take 45-90 minutes, truly depends on how much the person wants to open up and discover during the process.

From there, I will recommend a program that will suit your needs. A lot of times we start slow and build you up. I am not a gym that is going to throw you into a group class out of the gate to collect a monthly fee from you. What I will recommend is the best course of action to get your desired results — something I truly believe in.

Your assessment stays on file here and will also be given to you in hard-copy for your records. As an Aspire member, you are allowed to re-test 2x/year to track progress which is 100% crucial to your success.

Assessments are $99 and a pre-req to any program here.
