Local Ways to Help Haiti
Area stores and organizations are pitching in with residents' help.
Organizations working in Haiti have said the best way to help the recovery effort is to submit monetary donations.
Here are a few ways to help out locally:
- Save the Children is collecting donations to create emergency shelter kits for families and hygiene kits. To donate, click here. The organization also needs help processing gift transactions. Click here for more information.
- Attend the Food For Haiti food festival Jan. 30 at Saugatuck Congregational Church.
- Agabhumi the Best of Bali, a store located in downtown Westport, will contribute 20 percent of their gross sales dollars to the relief efforts in Haiti. Contributions will be made through AmeriCares.
- The Westport-Weston Chamber of Commerce will also compile donations and send them to AmeriCares on behalf of its members. In addition, the Chamber will contribute an amount equal to a percentage of total funds raised. Email info@westportwestonchamber.com or call 203.227.9234 for more information.
- The Southwestern Connecticut Chapter of the United Nations Association of the United States of America is urging donations be sent to the following UN organizations:
