About 1,500 historic homes and properties are located in Westport.</p> <p>The HDC also oversees the National Register Districts, which are the National Hall and Compo/Owenoke. In addition, the Commission is mandated to be an advocate of historic preservation planning throughout the Town of Westport.</p> <p>If a property is located in one of the designated local historic districts in Westport, all exterior renovations, additions, repairs, exterior changes to dwellings, fences, driveways or signs visible from the public right-of-way, or local roads, must receive a Certificate of Appropriateness from the Historic District Commission.
