The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International (JDRF)is the largest charitable funder and advocate for type 1 (juvenile) diabetes research.It is renowned as a highly effective medical research organization with remarkable efficiency in directing donor dollars to its mission. This year, JDRF’s unwavering commitment to diabetes research has earned it high marks from charity watchdogs.JDRF was founded 41 years ago by parents who were determined to find a cure for their children’s diabetes. JDRF has brought their vision within reach. Its mission has been constant; however we have not as yet found a cure and families are feeling a sense of urgency to accelerate the progress.

FACTS:

24 million Americans have diabetes.

Over 3 million Americans have type 1 diabetes, the more severe form of the disease. It is estimated that half of these are children.

80 people per day are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in the U.S.

Diabetes is the single most costly chronic disease.

 JDRF provided more that $107 million to diabetes research in FY 2010.
