New York has its Fashion Week. So does Paris. And on Friday,
Oct. 18, Westport will have its turn, a Fashion
Night at the Westport Woman’s Club with a lineup of hometown models strutting
the stuff of Fairfield
designer Lauren DiNardo.
In addition to
the runway show, there will be clothes, jewelry and accessories from nearly a
dozen local boutiques and food and drinks courtesy of local shops. All proceeds go to the club’s scholarship fund
and the Westport Historical Society.
“Women That Rock” is the theme of all DiNardo’s
work, and in keeping with that motif, the runway will feature many
of her signature tailored denim pieces embellished with crystal and beadworks,
peacoats, and accessories -- soft cashmere gloves, agate necklaces and belts
decorated with agate.
Early on, DiNardo says, she designed stage clothes
for musicians, so music has always been a big influence, giving her pieces a
“feeling of movement.”

The young designer started making her own clothes as
a teenager after her grandmother taught her how to sew. She says her career
launched after a denim skirt and silk necktie she made caught the eye of some New York boutique
owners.
So come out to the Westport Woman’s Club, 44 Imperial Ave.,
on Oct. 18 for a night of fashion and to help a good cause. The show runs from 7 to 9 p.m.
Cost: $20
