Westport Historical Society Presents: Rock Your Halloween Family Open House

Scary is good on the spookiest day of the year, but scary and crafty is even
better. So, on Saturday, Oct. 26, the WHS will offer a workshop where children
will learn how to be both making Halloween pumpkins from rocks, and masks from
materials found in home recycling bins. As if that’s not cool enough, they’ll
also create life-size skulls from Styrofoam head forms used to display hats in
stores.

You may wonder how stones can be turned into pumpkins. This Cinderella trick
starts with orange-colored rocks collected from area beaches. They take the
guise of Halloween pumpkins when they’re decorated with pieces of colored felt.

And since kids are bound to work up an appetite making all this ghoulish
stuff, a snack of spicy cider and pumpkin muffins will be served.

Capping off the program will be a tour of the WHS’ museum rooms, where
ghosts and other frightful things await. The Halloween-inspired creativity
takes place under the guidance of artist Elizabeth De Voll, the WHS’ education
director.

Cost: $25 per member family, $35 per non-member family, $10 per member, and
$15 per non-member.
