Hamden Hall Honors Richard Kent with Alumni Achievement Award

Hamden Hall Country Day School honored local attorney and Westport resident Richard Kent recently with an Alumni Achievement Award for his many personal and professional accomplishments.

Kent is a partner with Meyers, Breiner & Kent, L.L.P. in Fairfield and is a matrimonial lawyer.  He has also performed pioneering work on fathers' rights and has authored nine books, some of which have dealt with custody issues; namely Fighting for Your Children and Solomon's Choice.

“I want to thank Hamden Hall for giving me a great education and for laying the foundation for everything I have achieved in my life,” said Kent at the induction ceremony.

Kent graduated from Hamden Hall in 1968.

Hamden Hall’s Alumni Achievement Awards are presented to graduates of the school who have distinguished themselves in some particular manner worthy of recognition. Their achievements or contributions are spread across a diverse array of endeavors, with recognition in categories such as community service, society and world affairs, and professional excellence.

“The recipients uphold the highest standards and values in their pursuits, are passionate about their chosen undertaking, and are role models who inspire others,” said Hamden Hall Head of School Robert J. Izzo.

Following Hamden Hall, Kent went on to Rutgers College and graduated Phi Beta Kappa, summa cum laude, while also serving as class president. He then graduated from Boston College Law School. Currently, he is a member of Best Lawyers in America and Super Lawyers and volunteers as a special master in the court system.

Kent’s passion for sports led him to appearances on ESPN, working for CBS on three men's Final Fours, and he has been a consultant to two of the top agency groups—IMG and the NBA. Kent’s sports books include Big East Confidential, Inside Women's College Basketball, and Roger Federer: Back On Top. He is involved in the Jewish Community Center in Bridgeport and spearheaded the annual Schoolboy Classic.

Moreover, Kent shares his passion for the law with his wife, Lisa, who is also a lawyer. The couple has two daughters, Lindsay and Sarah.

Other honorees included Milford attorney Rolan Joni Young Smith, New York Times columnist and author Ross Douthat, David Wade, who serves as Chief of Staff to Secretary of State John F. Kerry, Hamden Hall art teacher Sue Spivack Bennett, and Bill Polinsky, a Yale University graduate and retired vice president of M. Schiavone & Sons.

Hamden Hall Country Day School, the nation’s fourth country day school, forms partnerships with the best resources in the area to bring learning to life for students. Since its founding in 1912, the school’s mission has been to challenge PreSchool through Grade 12 students to develop a strong sense of personal integrity, social responsibility and a global perspective while preparing them for demanding academic programs at the collegiate level.  Hamden Hall is a coeducational college preparatory school that enrolls students from over 35 communities.
