“West Side Story” is set on the streets of New York City in 1958, where two rival gangs, The Jets and The Sharks, (Montagues and Capulets) fight over their turf. Tony, who founded the Jets, sees Maria at a dance attended by both gangs and they fall in love at first sight. But, Maria’s older brother Bernardo is the leader of The Sharks, which, as in Romeo and Juliet foretells this love to end in tragedy.
