Volunteers Clean Up Westport For Earth Day

About 50 civic organizations from Westport reportedly participated in the "Green Up" effort.

To mark , a group of volunteers, under the direction of the Westport Parks and Recreation Department and Beautification Committee, removed cigarette butts and other trash from the streets of downtown .

According to a report in The Hour of Norwalk, about 50 civic organizations participated in the .

In the report, Westport Beautification Committee Chairwoman Angela Trucks said even through this year's "" cleanup was impressive — both in terms of turnout and the amount of debris collected — she wants an even higher rate of participation next year. She reportedly told The Hour that she would like to see neighbors band together and clean their neighborhoods, making it a truly town-wide cleanup.
