A Golden Anniversary for Brides at Longshore

Director of Sales says Inn prides itself on "cutting-edge weddings."

For nearly a century, couples have been exchanging vows on the banks of the Long Island Sound.   Longshore, one the Westport's most picturesque spots, has been the site of countless weddings; providing the backdrop as couples set sail on one of life's most meaningful journeys.

One of the earliest documented weddings at Longshore, was that of Carol De Bevoise and Francis Corcoran.  Miss De Bevoise was the daughter of General Charles I. De Bevoise, a summer resident of Westport.   At that time, Longshore was an estate owned by Mrs. Frederick E. Lewis, 2nd.

Since that time, Longshore has grown to be one of Connecticut's premier wedding destinations and was selected as, "The Best Place to Hold Your Wedding Reception" in a Best of Fairfield County poll.

Christine Hussey, Director of Sales at The Inn at Longshore, says that although Longshore remains a popular location for weddings of Fairfield County residents, its proximity to major cities, beautiful setting, and convenient location have resulted in Longshore gaining popularity as a destination location for couples from New York City and Boston.

Hussey said that The Inn at Longshore really prides itself on "cutting-edge weddings" and says that brides and grooms are looking for a place that can provide an experience for their guests – professional lighting, great food, and beautiful food presentation.

"The trends we've been seeing are up-lighting, cigar rollers, martini stations, and a focus on fresh food.  Couples want atmosphere.  One thing that hasn't changed is a desire for nice weather - everyone wants a beautiful day."

This October, Westport resident Andrea Rourke of Wedding Day Expositions, a consumer focused wedding expo, is teaming up with the Inn at Longshore to host the CT Wedding Show.  The expo will be held on October 24, and will showcase the top local and national wedding vendors in the area.   As part of the show, and in celebration of Longshore's 50th Anniversary, Rourke and the Longshore 50th Anniversary Committee are curating a photography exhibit entitled, "Longshore Wedding Album."  The show will feature a gallery of wedding photos of couples who were married at the Inn.   Photo submissions can be made through the Westport Historical Society (203) 222-1424, or e-mailing photos to Longshore50@gmail.com
