Panera Bread Opens in Westport

Panera Bread on Post Road East in Westport has opened following a few months of construction delays.

The bakery and sandwich shopped officially opened Tuesday. Business has been picking up as the word gets out, according to cashier Cindy.

"We had a good lunch yesterday," she said. "We're getting the word out that we're finally open."

Panera was originally scheduled to open in the spring but the company ran into "construction issues," spokesperson Angie Greene-Hicks said.

The newest site for the St. Louis-based measures 4,800 square feet in total, which includes a 360 square foot all-season patio that seats 24.

The interior portion of the eatery seats 105.

The Westport location -- located at 1860 Post Road, across from Shake Shack -- is working with the Connecticut Food bank to find a local partner to donate end-of-day products to.
