5 Things All About Westport: August 12

Classic cars, swinging at the Levitt and more.

  • The Planning & Zoning Commission’s Downtown Initiatives Sub-Committee will meet at 9:30 a.m. in the auditorium at Town Hall. On the agenda is a presentation by Lee Bourque of Carl Walker, Inc., a firm that specializes in the design of municipal parking structures. This will be followed by a discussion of downtown parking issues starting at 1 p.m. in Room 309.
  • Classic automobiles, food and a live DJ will make for a great evening of fun when the Connecticut Seaport Car Club brings its fleet of cool cars to the lot at 176 Post Road West from 6 to 9 p.m.
  • Get your dancing shoes on because the is going to jazz-up the Levitt Pavilion tonight. “The brainchild of trumpeter Dore DeQuattro and drummer Steve Shane, NYC Swing electrifies the audience, packs the dance floor and creates magical memories wherever they go.” The free concert starts with free dance lessons at 7:15 p.m. and live music at 8 p.m.
  • There’s only a few weeks left to catch the Christo and Jeanne-Claude exhibit, featuring two large-scale works in progress by the artists, “Over the River, Project for the Arkansas River, State of Colorado” and “The Mastaba, Project for the United Arab Emirates,” at the Westport Arts Center, 51 Riverside Avenue. The exhibit ends Sept. 4.
  • Looking toward the weekend, it’s at the Levitt Pavilion on Saturday night, August 13. The band includes Frannie Southworth and her husband Jeff (former Hall and Oates guitarist); Chris Coogan (Good News Gospel Choir director and local jazz superstar); Sharon Bryant (former Atlantic Starr lead singer); her son Alan (Staples grad turned Princeton Nassoon); and Tony Cruz (percussionist via Bruce Springsteen) – plus surprise guest artists. The free concert starts at 8 p.m.
