UPDATE: Monroe Woman Escaped Accident Without Injury

A car overturned on the Merritt Parkway this morning.

The Connecticut State Police responded to a rollover vehicle accident at 7:51 a.m. Friday on the Merritt Parkway southbound near exit 42 in Westport.

The Westport Fire Department and Fairfield Fire also responded to the scene. 

Only one car was involved. The driver, Caitlin Walsh of Monroe, escaped injury and refused treatment at the scene, according to a news release sent by the Westport Fire Department Friday afternoon.

This morning's rush hour traffic was backed up for miles while responding agencies cleared the scene. By 8:34 a.m., Westport Fire said all agencies had cleared the scene.

Westport Fire responded with one rescue, one engine, and the shift commander's vehicle with eight firefighters. Fairfield Fire responded with one engine and the Fairfield shift Commander with five firefighters.

The Westport Fire Department reminds all drivers and passengers about the need to buckle up. According to the news release, Walsh avoided injury because she was wearing a seat belt.
