Camerata Choir Sings to Seniors

Coleytown Middle School students perform at the Westport Center for Senior Activities.

Holiday music filled the halls of the Westport Center for Senior Activities Thursday, thanks to the Coleytown Middle School's Camerata Choir.

The choir sang Christmas carols, Hanukkah songs and a finale of "On My Own" from the musical Les Miserables.

Sarah Quagliariello, 12, Leah Blitstein, 11, and Emma Laney, a seventh-grader, each sang solos in the Les Mis piece.

Both said they like singing at the senior center because "you can tell (the seniors) enjoy it."

It's true, said Susie Shockey, grandmother of eighth-grader Kelsey Shockey who sings soprano alto in the choir.

Gradma Shockey said Kelsey has been in the choir for three years. Singing and stage presence are in her blood. Susie Shockey was a prima ballerina with the American Ballet Theatre in New York.

Students are selected to be in the choir based on their auditions.

The choir will return to the senior center in the spring.
