Staples Boys Hockey Drops Regular-Season Finale To Fairfield Warde Ludlowe, 6-4
Wreckers will play at Darien on Saturday in the first round of the FCIAC playoffs
There wasn't a great deal at stake for the Staples hockey team Thursday in its regular-season finale against Fairfield Warde-Ludlowe.
Win or lose, the Wreckers were locked into playing Darien in the first round of the FCIAC playoffs. The only issue to be determined was where the game would be played.
Staples did lose the opportunity to host a playoff game, surrendering a tiebreaking goal in the final minute of its 6-4 setback to the Mustangs at the Wonderland of Ice.

Playing its third game in six days and second in two days, the Wreckers finished the regular season at 14-6.
In the FCIAC, Staples tied Darien for fourth at 7-5, but settled for the fifh seed with Darien grabbing the No. 4 spot following the tiebreakers.

Wilton is the No. 6 seed and will take on No. 3 St. Joseph in the quarterfinals. The Cadets fell to Ridgefield 4-1 on Wednesday in the battle for the No. 2 seed.
The quarterfinals get under way Friday with St. Joseph hosting the Warriors at the Shelton Ice Rinks at 3 p.m. and top seed New Canaan battling No. 8 Trumbull at 6 p.m. at the Darien Ice Rink.
On Saturday, No. 2 Ridgefield hosts No. 7 Greenwich at Winter Garden Arena at 8:50 p.m.
Staples will play Darien at the Darien Ice Rink, but as of late Thursday night, the time was still to be determined.
