Smokey Joe’s Cafe From its first performance at Broadway’s Virginia Theatre, SMOKEY JOE’S CAFÉ: THE SONGS OF LEIBER AND STOLLER was an enormous hit with audiences and critics alike. Entertainment Weekly raved, “Nine of the most astounding voices on Broadway in years.” Time Magazine declared, “These cats can sing, both as solo stunners and as part of street corner quartets that seem to have been together for years.” SMOKEY JOE’S CAFÉ received a Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album for its original cast recording as well as seven Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical, Best Director, Best Choreography, Best Featured Actor (Victor Trent Cook) and Best Featured Actress (for its three leading ladies Brenda Braxton, BJ Crosby, and DeLee Lively).

PUTTING IT TOGETHER is a musical “review” celebrating the songs of Stephen Sondheim. A production at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles ran from October to December 1998, featuring Carol Burnett, George Hearn, Bronson Pinchot, West End stage star John Barrowman and Susan Egan. This production of PUTTING IT TOGETHER subsequently transferred to Broadway in the Fall of 1999 at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre, with this same cast except for Egan (who was by then starring as Sally Bowles in the very successful revival of Cabaret at Studio 54) who was replaced by West End stage star, Ruthie Henshall. Running for more than 100 performances, PUTTING IT TOGETHER landed a Tony nomination for Best Actor in a Musical for George Hearn.

JEKYLL & HYDE: THE MUSICAL brings new life to Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic story of the epic battle between good and evil, as imagined by acclaimed composer Frank Wildhorn and writer/lyricist Leslie Bricusse. David Hasselhoff made his Broadway debut in the dual title role, bringing his performing talent off the television screen (Knight Rider, Baywatch) to the musical theatre stage. JEKYLL & HYDE is the longest-running show in the history of Broadway’s Plymouth Theatre, with more than 1500 performances over nearly four years. The show won a legion of repeat visitors, dubbed by the press as “Jekkies”, with some hardcore fans having seen the show hundreds of times. Performers as diverse as The Moody Blues, Liza Minnelli and Johnny Mathis have recorded songs from the show, including “Someone Like You”, “This Is The Moment” and “Once Upon A Dream.” Captured in brilliant high definition.

SOPHISTICATED LADIES
Recently restored and remastered tapes of the 1981 Tony winning DUKE ELLINGTON’S are now being exhibited on the big screen for the first time. The historic first live-in-performance capture of a currently running Broadway musical will be presented in remastered in 5.1 surround sound. The production features the Duke Ellington Orchestra under the direction of Mercer Ellington and a knockout cast includes Grammy-winner Phyllis Hyman and 3-time Tony-winner, Hinton Battle. An all-star score celebrates the Duke with “Take the “A” Train”, “I’m Beginning to See the Light”, “Hit Me With a Hot Note and Watch Me Bounce”, “It Don’t Mean a Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing)”, In a Sentimental Mood”, “Sophisticated Lady”, “Don’t Get Around Much Anymore”, “Satin Doll”, and “I Got It Bad and That Ain’t Good,” among many others.
