First Impressionist Live ArtTrek on Main Street

Westport’s Impressionist ArtTrek

The First Annual Impressionist Live ArtTrek is scheduled to kick off noon April 26 at the corner of Main Street and Post Road in Westport, CT. The event will last about 45 minutes and is sponsored by the Westport River Gallery.

Live college participants will each wear a beret, long a traditional headwear favored by internationally-known artists Monet, Chagall, Pissarro and others.

The unique first-of-its-kind event in the region featuring International Impressionists is sponsored by the Westport River Gallery. Amy King, program coordinator, said all participants, in addition to the artists’ traditional berets, will be wearing a special shirt. Each person will also be holding original European paintings.

Participants will walk up and down Main Street, and provide the region’s first real traveling ArtTrek. “Why go to a museum or art gallery when it can come to you?” said King. She said participants include college juniors/seniors majoring in Advertising & Promotion: Libby Hess, Dan Jennings, Michelle Bender, Melissa Stanton, Jasree Peralta, and Robert Diaz.

Ken Warren, gallery owner/curator, said “this reflects the feeling by many artists worldwide that their art should be enjoyed everywhere…not just on a wall. Many of the originals work of art are from France, and includes two physician-artists.

The First Annual Impressionist Live ArtTrek is part of an all-year celebration by Westport River Gallery, which in 2014 is marking its 10th anniversary.

The gallery is known for offering works by the father of French Impressionism Camille Pissarro, and his subsequent three generations of artists including Lucien Pissarro, Rodo Pissarro, Paulemile Pissarro, H.
