As the race for Westport/Weston Probate Judge enters the final stretch before Tuesday’s election, candidate Lisa Wexler has taken to the airwaves to correct the record after her opponent propagated distortions about her experience and qualifications.
In various public forums, Kieran Costello has asserted that he has more Probate experience than Wexler, but Lisa Wexler has countered that she actually has been a practicing attorney eight years longer than Costello, and with deep experience in trusts, estates and real estate – the fundamentals of Probate law. Costello also implied that Lisa Wexler is not a member of the Connecticut Bar or the Connecticut Bar Association, although she is a member in good standing of both.
In the video, Lisa Wexler also draws a serious distinction between herself and her opponent when it comes to avoiding conflicts of interest once she becomes the Probate Judge. Wexler has pledged that she will not accept new law clients if elected Probate Judge, and will only handle uncontested matters for existing clients. Conversely, Mr. Costello has refused to take a similar pledge. Wexler asserts that this is a conflict of interest that could compromise the integrity of the Court.
