Family Dog Dies in House Fire, Firefighter Injured at Scene

The blaze kept firefighters busy for nearly five hours Saturday.

A family dog perished in a house fire at 21 Partrick Road Saturday and a Westport firefighter who responded to the scene was taken to Norwalk Hospital for minor injuries. The firefighter's name was not released Sunday due to privacy issues but the department reports that he was treated and released from the hospital.

The Westport Fire Department responded to the blaze around 6:30 p.m. Saturday with four engines, a ladder truck and the shift commander vehicle, with an additional ladder truck from Norwalk.

Westport Police arrived on scene first and the homeowner reported to them that everyone was out of the house.  Upon arrival, a large fire was visible from the back of the building and from the front window. Firefighters laid a supply line from a nearby hydrant and stretched two hose lines through the front door to extinguish the fire. During the search on the second floor, firefighters located the family dog that perished in the fire.
