Himes Announces Funds For New Fire Dept. Generator
Power output will be enough to service all of fire headquarters.
Rep. Jim Himes visited the Westport Fire Headquarters Monday morning to announce the department will be receiving federal funds to purchase and install a new generator.
Himes, D-4, arranged an earmark for the department of $265,000, which will be used to acquire a replacement for one of the two generators currently installed in the headquarters building at 515 Post Road East.
With an output of 265 kilowatts, Chief Christopher Ackley said the new generator will be able to power the entire building for about four days.

Fire Headquarters also contains Westport's emergency management center, which Himes toured. Multiple high-definition screens on the room's walls display current fire and medical calls, including a town map that indicates the location of fire apparatus and ambulances.
