Photos of Saturday's Boat Fire Off Compo Beach
Sequence of photos shows 47-foot vessel burning down to the waterline.
Westport police have shared photos of off Compo Beach with Patch. The photos were taken from shore by Katherine Hooper of Westport.
The sequence of photos shows the 47-foot vessel — a Meridian with twin diesel engines named “TWOSOME” from out of Cove Marina in Norwalk — burning down to the waterline.
According to a report from the Westport Fire Department, the boat fire started at about 8 p.m. The incident is being investigated by the Westport Police Marine Division and the cause has not yet been reported.

Westport Police Captain Sam Arciola, who was off duty and just happened to be fishing in his private boat along with a friend nearby, rescued the lone occupant of the vessel before it went up in flames.
Firefighters from Westport and Norwalk tried to extinguish the fire but the boat burned down to the waterline and sank. Attempts will be made to salvage the vessel, officials said.
