Police Blotter: Drug Deal at Country Store Foiled

Police reports from Sept. 9-12.

The following arrest information was supplied by the Westport Police Department. It does not indicate convictions.

Two men were caught in a drug transaction at the Country Store on Newtown Turnpike. According to the report, a plainclothes officer observed the transaction on Sept. 10 at approximately 12:30 p.m. Benjamin Gifford, 29, of Norwalk, and Nicholas Sicilian, 21, of Trumbull tried exchanging Oxycodone. Both were charged with possession of narcotics and are scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Sept. 20. Bail for Gifford was set at $1,000 and bail for Sicilian was set at $500.

Oswaldo Morales, 23, of Bridgeport, was arrested on Sept. 9 at 3:50 p.m. on charges of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. According to the report, Morales was pulled over on Post Road East for having an expired registration. Police found three plastic bags containing marijuana and two pipes used for smoking marijuana inside the vehicle. Morales' bail was set at $1,000 and he is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Sept. 20.

John Mori, 53, of Plunkett Place, was arrested on Sept. 10 at 6:47 p.m. on charges of driving under the influence and failure to drive in the proper lane. According to the report, Mori drove into a utility pole at Long Lots Road and North Avenue. At the scene, officers reported that Mori was unsteady on his feet and his breath had an odor of alcohol. He failed field sobriety tests and was arrested. Mori's bail was set at $500 and he is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Sept. 20.

Francois Balogh, 57, of Norwalk, was arrested on Sept. 11 at 9:15 p.m. on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol. According to the report, Balogh was stopped on Saugatuck Avenue for driving without headlights. He was pulled over and the officer detected an odor of alcohol. Balogh failed field sobriety tests and was arrested. His bail was set at $500 and he is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Sept. 21.

Zayra Sanchez, 38, of Norwalk, was arrested on Sept. 12 at 9:58 a.m. on a charge of second-degree failure to appear. According to the report, Sanchez was pulled over on Kings High Northway for having an unreadable license plate. Police determined that there was a warrant for her arrest stemming from motor vehicle charges where she failed to appear in court. Sanchez' bail was set at $5,500 and she is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Sept. 13.

Kim Ramos, 43, and Mathew Jones, 51, both of Kings Highway North, were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct on Sept. 12 at 9:45 a.m. According to the report, they were involved in a domestic dispute that turned violent. Both were released on a promise to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Sept. 13.
