Police Blotter: Sword-Wielding, Rifle-Toting Man Arrested

Police reports from Sept. 30 to Oct. 3.

The following arrest information was supplied by the Westport Police Department. It does not indicate convictions.

Several roads were closed by police and neighbors were evacuated when a man reportedly armed with several swords and a black powder rifle was involved in a domestic dispute with his wife. John Conway, 40, of Valley Road, was arrested on Sept. 29 and charged with first-degree threatening and breach of peace. No injuries were reported and his bail was set at $5,000. He is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Oct. 12.

Djalma Ferreira, 28, of Trumbull, was arrested on Sept. Oct. 1 at 3:50 p.m. on two counts of issuing a bad check. According to the report, Ferreira turned himself in at the Westport Police Department. He was wanted for allegedly writing two fraudulent checks totaling $4,226.73 to L.H. Gault & Son that were returned by the bank for having insufficient funds. Ferreira's bail was set at $4,500 and he is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Oct. 11.

Jetnor Pocesta, 20, of Stamford was arrested on Oct. 2 at 2:26 a.m. on charges of driving under the influence and failure to drive in the proper lane. According to the report, Pocesta was seen making a U-turn on Riverside Avenue, and then cross the double yellow centerline on Treadwell Avenue. He was pulled over, failed field sobriety tests and was arrested. Pocesta's bail was set at $500 and he is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Oct. 12.

A Ridgefield man was arrested after approaching his wife, who has an active protective order against him, during a soccer game at Wakeman Field. According to the report, James Robinson, 46, allegedly came within 15 feet of his wife, but then left when she threatened to call the police. Robinson was contacted at home by Westport police and turned himself in on Oct. 3 at 8:50 p.m. He was charged with criminal violation of a protective order. His bail was set at $1,000 and he is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Oct. 4.

Gary Effman, 46, of Crawford Road, was arrested on Oct. 1 at 7:20 p.m. on a charge of failure to pay or plead. According to the report, Effman turned himself in having knowledge there was a warrant for his arrest. The original charge was an unspecified violation of a town ordinance in Fairfield. Effman's bail was set at $100 and he is scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on Oct. 12.
