Six-Vehicle Accident on I-95 Sends Four to Hospital

Icy conditions seem to be the cause of the accident.

The Westport Fire Department responded to a multi vehicle accident on I-95 South on the Saugatuck river bridge at 12:23 a.m. today.

Six vehicles were involved over a 100-yard distance. The middle travel lane and passing lane were closed for more than an hour. Connecticut State Police also requested the assistance of Westport Police to assist at the scene. Two ambulances responded and four occupants of the vehicles were transported to Norwalk hospital. All patients appeared to have non life threatening injuries.

Connecticut State Department of Transportation sand trucks were called to the scene to cover the icy road conditions and minor motor vehicle fluid spills from the accident. The Westport Fire Department responded with one command car, one engine company and one rescue company. The Westport Police Department responded with three patrol cars. The last fire department vehicle cleared the scene at 1:37 a.m.
