Skakel alleges his lawyer, Mickey Sherman, did not adequately defend him, the Danbury News Times reports.
Skakel, who has maintained his innocence in Moxley's death, was denied parole in October. If he wins next month's trial, Skakel's conviction would be vacated, according to the News Times. The prosecution would then likely appeal that decision. After that, Skakel could also be tried again for the crime, but the prosecution might decide to drop the case.
