Westport Teen Arrested on Drug Charge in Wilton

Matthew Weber left his car parked along a roadside with contraband in plain view.

Police noticed a car parked along Topfield Road in Wilton for a significant portion of time on June 23. But it was the car's contents that aroused suspicion.

Seeing the unoccupied vehicle along the roadside, a Wilton officer checked it to determine whether or not it had been abandoned. Upon doing so, he noticed an "empty plastic baggie" that appeared to be of a suspicious origin.

When revisiting the car later in the day, the officer observed another car coming by and dropping of the unoccupied motor vehicle's operator Matthew Weber, 18, of Westport. At this point, the officer began a conversation with Weber, which led to his "admitting to having a bong in a backpack in the back seat" of the vehicle, according to Wilton Police Spokesman Don Wakeman.

After further questioning, Weber also admitted to having marijuana stashed in the car. A search also yielded alcohol in the trunk of the vehicle, which Weber was not of legal age to possess.

He was eventually charged with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of alcohol by a minor. He was released on PTA and has a July 8 court date.
